Bosker on the cusp of going undefeated

 In News, Skiff
Bosker Build is on track to sweep the Riley Fittings club championship at St George after registering a double victory at the weekend.
The Sarah-Lee skippered skiff racked up back-to-back bullets in heats five and six and seem assured of being crowned overall winner despite having three heats left to sail.
Bosker has a chance to make history by going through the series undefeated as its flawless performances on tricky Georges River continue to amaze.
The defending champs are led by Lee but the chief conductor is quick to point to local duo Kurt Warner and Pete Mackie as the engine room of the operation
There’s not a patch of the Georges River this pair hasn’t negotiated and their uncanny ability to get just about every call right has proved invaluable.
“The biggest challenge for me has been working out which channel markers you can ignore and which ones you need to pay a lot of respect to,” Lee explained.
“Tide is always a big factor and sometimes you need to decide to sail to tide or wind which keeps things interesting.
“Most of the time there’s not much chop but when you get a Nor’easter with a run out tide you know you’re alive.
“I love sailing at St George and Kurt and Mackie have sailed the river their whole lives so they are great sources of knowledge to have onboard.”
Noakes (Tom Dawson) has kept Bosker honest throughout, recording three consecutive runner-up places to sit second on the overall pointscore.
Skipper Dawson, who has done the majority of his sailing at Belmont, is fast becoming familiar with the vagaries of Georges River.
He said: “It’s a difficult place to sail because conditions vary from week to week whereas Belmont is pretty consistent.
“You’ve always got the tide and you’ve got to hit different parts of the land to get the shift and you get different breeze directions…there’s a lot going on.
“We’re watching and learning from Bosker, especially what Pete Mackie does, because they hardly make a mistake.
“Each race is an education but we’re pretty happy we’ve been able to narrow the gap a bit and pick up a couple of results.”
Toogara (Tom Clout) and Tribeca (Ben Bradey) round out the club championship top four and promise to keep the heat on over the closing heats.
11Teen (Matthew Mulholland) has built on its win in the first half pointscore series before Christmas, holding down the club championship handicap lead.
The club championship resumes on March 22.
