To help reduce the cost of sailing or for first time buyers, the Club provides a generous Subsidy to anyone looking to purchase a new boat in any of the 16ft Skiff, 13ft Skiff, Flying 11, and Manly Junior Classes. The Subsidy is approximately 25% of the on-water cost to buy a new boat. The only requirement is that you commit to sailing at St George in that boat for at least 2 seasons.
In addition to the Subsidy, any 16ft or 13ft Skiff can take an Advance or “loan” on their expected Prize Money earnings to help with purchasing a boat, sails, equipment, or other necessary items. To pay the Advance back, you only need to turn up and sail on the scheduled race days to pay it off. Any remaining balance is invoiced at the end of the sailing season.

Advance: an Advance is any future Prize Money awarded to a 16ft or 13ft Skiff participating in regularly organised racing at either Manly or St George. If the boat owner sells the boat, stops sailing for the Club, or does not meet the 80% participation requirement then any unrealized prize money must be paid back to the Club in full. In the event that money cannot be paid, the Club reserves the right to take ownership of the boat.
Subsidy: a Subsidy will be treated as a loan for a duration of 2 years. Upon completion of 2 years of sailing for the Club at the 80% participation rate, the loan will be extinguished and no requirement be made to pay the money back to the Club. If the boat owner sells the boat, stops sailing for the Club, or does not meet the 80% participation requirement then the Subsidy amount must be paid back to the Club in full. In the event that money cannot be paid, the Club reserves the right to take ownership of the boat.
