17th February – MG14 Report

In MG14 News, St George Sailing Club

Testing conditions greeted the MG14 sailors on Saturday with the first EBB tide 18-24 knots NE conditions for the season. It was a Sunny Beautiful day otherwise for the Little and Browne Shield round 2 and club pointscore no 15.

Tempest still looking for a crew at 1:30pm, saw Rory’s sister  jump on board at the last minute to allow Stuart to get out there and sail a solid race instead of watching from the shore.

Tempest, Pegasus and Blues Brothers were all so eager to get going that they broke the start forcing the Race Officer to unfurl Code Flag X. Tempest and Blues Brother returned to recross the start however Pegasus thought otherwise and continued on deciding that OCS on the finish sheet would be good enough.

Pegasus with great speed to windward was 1st around the mark ( with a little headstart!!)  followed by Ella.

Spinnakers set, leaping off waves some great rides until the first gybe saw Pegasus cooling off with a swim.

Ella lead for the rest of the race to take out line honours with a massive 6 mins 30 sec margin from Tempest and Blues Brothers.

Phoenix , Ballistic , Jetstream, High Calibre &  Blewtopia all-conquering the big seas and strong winds until High Calibre on the way to the finish broke their mast with 300m to go.

A very testing and trying day for all was had and the non swimmers made up the 3 podium positions at the end of the day.

 Results

SCR: Ella, Tempest and Blues Brothers

HCP: Ella, Blues Brothers and Phoenix
